Growing Information
Plant the rhizomes just below the soil surface with buds facing upward. Space plants about 6 inches apart in rows 6 to 12 inches apart. Use a thick mulch layer of hardwood leaves or shredded bark to protect the plants during winter, raking it back 1 to 2 inches before spring growth begins. These plants prefer well-drained, organically rich soil and moderate watering to keep the soil consistently moist. They are hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9.
